Whitney Library Partners with the Raiders to Inspire Readers of All Ages

The Whitney Library has kicked off the new year with an exciting partnership with the Las Vegas Raiders as part of the 2025 Winter Reading Challenge! Running from January 2 to January 31, this initiative aims to spark a love for reading across the community while offering exciting prizes and unique events.

Special Storytime Event with the Raiders

One of the highlights of the partnership was a special storytime event held on January 8, featuring Qiava Martinez, the Raiders' Senior Vice President and Chief Sales Officer. Ms. Martinez read from her inspiring children's book, Sports Dream, which encourages kids to discover their strengths and follow their dreams. The event also featured a surprise visit from Raider Rusher, creating a memorable experience for the children and families in attendance.

Meet Mr. Billy – Hip Hop Storytime with a Twist

In addition to the Raiders partnership, Whitney Library's very own Branch Manager, Mr. Billy, adds a unique twist to storytelling with his Hip Hop Storytimes. Mr. Billy brings books to life through engaging rhythms and rhymes, combining music and literacy in a way that captivates young readers. His sessions are a favorite among the community, making reading both fun and interactive.

Winter Reading Challenge Details

Participants of all ages can join the Winter Reading Challenge by reading for at least five hours throughout January. Readers can track their progress using a printable bookmark log or the Beanstack app. Those who complete the challenge can visit their local library branch to claim exciting prizes, including Las Vegas Raiders-branded items, library swag, and gift cards, while supplies last. Completed entries will also be entered into a Grand Prize drawing.

Exclusive Raiders Library Card

To celebrate the collaboration, the library has released a special edition Las Vegas Raiders library card. Community members can sign up for this exclusive card starting January 2, providing access to a wealth of library resources, from books and audiobooks to online learning tools.
