Black History Month: Kicking Off February with Purpose

Hi Hive,
The first of February hits differently. Yeah, Black history is every single day, but there’s something about this month that makes us stand a little taller, speak a little louder, and celebrate a little harder. It’s like a family reunion where everyone is finally paying attention to the stories that should’ve been told all year long.

From the moment the calendar flips, the energy shifts. Schools dust off their MLK posters, social media gets flooded with tributes, and brands suddenly remember we exist. But beyond the performative gestures, February is a time for us—for reflection, for honoring, for learning, and for pushing forward.

Think about it: Black history isn’t just about what’s in textbooks (or what they try to leave out). It’s in the music blasting from your speakers, the books that shaped your perspective, the slang that turned into mainstream culture, and the inventions that make everyday life easier. It’s in the resilience of our ancestors and the creativity of the new generation refusing to be boxed in.

So, on this first day of February, let’s kick it off right. Read something by a Black author. Watch a documentary that tells our story beyond the headlines. Support a Black-owned business. Have conversations with your people about the history that shaped us and the future we’re building.

Because Black history isn’t just a moment—it’s movement. And we’re always in motion.
